In the past two years, the competition in the cosmetics industry has intensified, and the environmental protection momentum has become increasingly strong. Many companies have actively or passively joined the environmental protection cause, not only finding a way out for their own sustainable development, but also contributing to the environment.
Taking beauty product sample maker Arcade Beauty as an example, it announced a few days ago that it has developed a recyclable PE (polyethylene) packaging bag for L'Oreal Paris, L'Oreal's largest beauty brand. Coincidentally, last week, L’Oréal announced that it will launch an innovative cosmetic bottle, which is scheduled to go into production in 2025.
Combined with the "environmental protection actions" of other brands, the editor found that replacing packaging materials is their usual response, such as using dissolvable packaging, 100% recycled plastic, and so on.
Previously, foreign media reported that some brands have developed the technology of using bacterial cellulose to make cosmetic plastics instead of wrapping paper. Bacterial cellulose, also known as "microbial cellulose", has relatively good biological adaptability and degradability, and is a cutting-edge technology to reduce environmental pollution.
It can be seen that packaging environmental protection is an inevitable trend in the development of cosmetics, and it is also an important technology for brands to enhance their competitiveness. In fact, in addition to packaging, we can also start from raw materials, technology, logistics and other aspects.
Like He Yan (HERA), by improving the formula, it is more in line with environmental protection requirements. One of them is that the flagship product, HERA Black Gold Lasting Liquid Foundation, uses palm oil that is sustainably grown and produced as certified by the Roundtable of Suatainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
In addition, Old Spice, the deodorant brand owned by Procter & Gamble, has a deodorant called Clean water, and its paper tube packaging is made of recycled paper and adopts a "push-up" design to reduce weight. The product's packaging is made from 90% post-consumer recycled materials, and it is reported that it is the most environmentally friendly product yet among P&G's men's grooming products.
We know that reducing carbon emissions is the most direct method. Therefore, if the whole process of logistics and transportation is low-carbon, the burden on the environment will be greatly reduced. For example, Amorepacific’s brands have greatly reduced the use of cushioning materials, turned to inflatable airbags instead of foam, etc., and also replaced traditional tapes with plant fiber tapes that can naturally degrade in a short period of time. Compared with before, the packaging and transportation process is much more environmentally friendly.
All in all, environmental protection has become a hot topic of discussion today. Today's consumers, in order to express their support for the cause of environmental protection, basically have a "good impression" of this type of cosmetics. Therefore, no matter the size of your own business, it is always right to use more snacks on environmental issues!
